Category 3 damage classified as black water, includes water from all forms of flooding from seawater, toilet back flows that originate from beyond the toilet trap, ground waters rising from rivers or streams and category 2 damage that has been left untreated for longer than 48 hours.

Sewer damage losses can be extremely hazardous.  Our technicians wear Tyvekä suits, gloves, respirators and goggles when dealing with sewer damage.  They are inoculated against the Hepatitis B virus as a precautionary measure to prevent infection from contact with fecal matter.  It is not recommended that the homeowner attempt to clean this type of damage due to the health implications involved.  Bacteria from raw sewage that has backed up into the house from either a clogged pipe or septic system can become airborne and therefore must be treated accordingly.

This may mean removing any affected carpeting and/or flooring materials and  applying various antimicrobial treatments to the affected surfaces.  In cases where the fecal matter has accumulated in large quantities it may first need to be shoveled before it can be pressure washed and extracted. 

No matter how large or small a sewer damage is, they must all be treated the same, with extreme caution.  All hoses, tools and equipment must be cleaned and disinfected before proceeding to the next job to insure a healthy environment; not only for our customers but for our technicians as well.  All extracted liquids go into a holding tank where they remain until disposal at the sewage treatment plant.
